With effect from 2.8.2021 it is possible to theft and now loss personal documents to report to the police of the Czech Republic (OOP Jesenice, Vestecká 1400, Jesenice) or in the municipality with extended competence at the place where personal documents are issued (for Vestec citizens, at the Municipal Office Černošice, Podskalská 19, Prague 2, or at any office of the Prague 1-22 municipal district where personal documents are issued).

Reporting the theft or loss of a personal document expires immediately of the reported document in order to prevent misuse of this document. Once a document has been invalidated, it is no longer cannot be restored and you must always apply for a new document.

Issuing an identity card not subject to the catchment area of the place of residence, so you can apply wherever they issue ID cards. Typically, these are all the offices of the municipal districts in Prague, the Municipal Office Černošice (workplace Podskalská 19, Prague 2).

If your ID card is about to expire, you can apply for it apply for a free replacement up to six months before the expiry date.

Issuance of ID cards for so-called immobile citizens residing in the administrative district of Vestec is handled by employees of the Municipal Office of Černošice during a personal visit directly at the client's home. It is necessary for the applicant to make an appointment in advance - telephone 601 378 507.

 

The citizen is obliged to apply for a new ID card within 15 working days from the date of:

• when the period of validity indicated therein has expired
• when the loss, theft or destruction was reported
• receipt of a marriage certificate or civil partnership document (if status is shown on the ID card) *
• the entry into force of the court decision on the dissolution of the marriage (if the ID card indicates the status) *
• receipt of the death certificate of the spouse (if the status is shown on the ID card) *
• the entry into force of the decision to cancel the permanent residence
• the entry into force of a decision changing the name, surname or assigning a new birth number *
• after the date on which he or she reported a change of permanent residence or the date on which the decision on the cancellation of the permanent residence came into force. *

With effect from 2.8.2021, when the new Act No. 269/2021 Coll. on ID cards came into force, points marked with * above will automatically expire 45 days after the change is made. Do not hesitate to visit the office.

On 2 August 2021, a new Act No. 269/2021 Coll. on ID cards came into force, according to which academic degrees will no longer be entered on ID cards. Marital status or registered partnership will remain optional. The appearance of the card is also changing, with the two-letter country code 'CZ' printed in reverse on a blue rectangle in a circle of twelve yellow stars appearing in the top left-hand corner of the card. A new feature is also biometric data management stored in the holder's ID card chip. All newly issued machine-readable ID cards  include a biometric facial image and for citizens over 12 years of age Printed from a finger from each hand. This ensures compliance with Regulation (EU) 2019/1157 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 20 June 2019 on strengthening the security of Union citizens' identity cards and residence permits issued to Union citizens and their family members exercising their right to free movement.

The identity card is issued

• citizens under 15 years of age with a validity period of 5 years,
• citizens over 15 years of age with a validity period of 10 years,
• citizens over 70 years of age with a validity period of 35 years old a
• citizens over 12 years of age, for whom it is temporarily impossible to take fingerprints, with a validity period of 1 year.

 

When you receive your completed ID card, you will be asked to set up the security codes for your new ID card:

Security codes

• PERSONAL SECURITY CODE (SIDE)which protects the document against misuse in the event of loss or theft, similar to a credit card. Choose (make up) a combination of 4 - 10 digits (digits only) to enter into the terminal directly at the point of collection of the new card. The BOK will be used in person at offices, banks, post offices and other places equipped with terminals. The third incorrect entry of the BOK will cause it to be blocked. The unblocking will be carried out by the municipality with extended jurisdiction for an administrative fee of CZK 100. This code is mandatory.

 

• You can also  Activate (but it's not a requirement) identification certificate in the chip, which allows remote access to the Public Administration Portal. Access to the data in the chip is protected PERSONAL IDENTIFICATION CODE (IOK). Choose (make up) a combination of 4 - 10 digits (digits only) to enter into the terminal directly at the point of receipt of the new OP. At the same time, enter PERSONAL DEBLOCKING CODE (DOC), which will unblock the IOK if it is blocked after the third incorrect entry. The DOC is also made up of 4 to 10 digits, which you choose when you take over the new OP. If after the tenth incorrect entry of the DOK, the identification certificate in the chip is blocked, it can only be unblocked at the office of the municipality with extended jurisdiction. Also, changing these codes can only be done at these offices.

Persons under 15 years of age, persons with limited legal capacity and other persons according to the law do not enter the security codes BOK, IOK and DOK.

 

Existing identity cards shall remain valid for the period specified therein, except for identity cards issued before 30 June 2000, which shall expire on 2 August 2026. Citizens born before 1 January 1936 may still have these expired ID cards; these are usually of the "book" type.

From the beginning of 2024 you will be able to use eDocuments to communicate with central administrative authorities, these are in particular ministries. Gradually, their use will be extended to other places, and from January 2025, probably to municipal authorities, municipal police, post offices, banks, universities, health insurance companies, precinct election commissions and private persons, if a regulation requires them to verify someone's identity (e.g. accommodation, sale of alcohol).
