Municipality of Vestec

The village is crossed by the II. class road II/603 Vídeňská in the north-south direction and by the local road Vestecká in the east-west direction, which are very busy with traffic between the capital city Prague and the southern region. The village is also connected to the D0 which runs to the west of the village and a metro station is expected to be built at the northern edge in the future.

Most of the service roads in the village were built as part of new residential and commercial developments. The backbone road of Vestec is being continuously repaired and the entire road surface will be resurfaced in 2021, while there are also plans to resurface the central part of the village. The municipality is also progressively repairing other roads under its ownership, with the installation of traffic calming features and the construction of new sidewalks as part of these repairs.

Thanks to the development of cycling, a considerable number of cyclists pass through the village on the adapted routes. The municipality has built new cycle paths that provide a convenient and safe connection to both Prague and Jesenice.

Most of the properties in the territory of the municipality are connected to the public water supply and sewerage system, operated by Technical Services Dolnobřežanska, s.r.o. The municipality has its own wastewater treatment plant, which has been gradually modernized and intensified, the total cost has gradually exceeded CZK 100 million and currently has a capacity of 10,000 equivalent inhabitants.

In the northern part of the village there is a retention reservoir, which was built at a cost of about 16.5 million CZK and thanks to the landscaping of the surroundings and the construction of a public barbecue area it has become an interesting place for trips.

As the population of the village has grown significantly, the amenities have also gradually improved.

In the village there are two large grocery stores (Albert, Billa), several restaurants, a pharmacy, shops with electronics, furniture, pet supplies, ATMs, own post office, hairdresser, cafe, confectionery, florist. The village also has its own kindergarten, which after completion is designed for a maximum of 140 children. Education in the primary school sector is handled by the municipality with the help of partner schools in the South Town, especially the Campanus Primary School, with which it has been cooperating for a long time and most of the children from Vestec attend this school. For the youngest schoolchildren the municipality provides a school bus, for the older ones the line 326 is extended to the bus stop at the primary school.

In the framework of leisure activities, the municipality has gradually expanded the changing rooms in the sports area in the playground, which also serves as a background for various sports and activities for children. The original multifunctional playground has been adapted and roofed. In 2021, additional training areas were built in the area by the pond, where a workout area and a children's playground can also be found. Additional playgrounds are located throughout the community, the largest of which is located directly on Vestecka.

In the past, the landscape around the village was intensively cultivated, so compact greenery is only sporadically found there. The municipality seeks both to protect and revitalise the existing greenery and undeveloped landscape and to systematically establish new green areas and tree plantations. Therefore, the municipality has created a Green Spine project, which runs from south to north through the entire municipality and includes both the current pond area and new rainwater catchment features, as well as large new green areas. The existing green areas are also gradually being landscaped and new trees and shrubs are being planted, one example being the planting of the Avenue of Freedom leading from the pond towards Hrnčíře.

Waste sorting has been introduced in the municipality since 1994. The municipality has also set up several collection points for biological waste and a collection yard is available for residents.

The Vestec municipality has continued the traditional forms of folk entertainment by organizing a carnival and witch burning, other regular cultural events include a children's day, Christmas tree lighting, St. Nicholas party, the light from Bethlehem, welcoming of citizens and events for the elderly.

There are several associations in Vestec that contribute significantly to the maintenance of community life in the village. Many of them organize cultural events not only for their members but also for the general public. These include the Baráček Family Centre, z.s., the Dog's Most Loyal Friend, z.s., the Vestec Seniors' Association, z.s., etc.

In the past, some important companies operated in Vestec, which influenced the present face of the village. The Agro Jesenice agricultural enterprise still cultivates most of the agricultural land and owns a processing plant with a fruit and vegetable processing and freezing plant in the north of the village. JIVA Jirák, a manufacturer of stainless steel equipment with a tradition dating back to the First Republic, resumed production in the centre of the village in the 1990s, and some of the original farmhouses in the village square have also found new commercial use.

To the west of Vídeňská Street is the SAFINA complex, which was followed in the 1990s by extensive construction of commercial complexes with a wide range of activities, the most important of which is the Biotechnology Centre Vestec (BIOCEV). However, there are also a number of other entities engaged in scientific research.

The actual number of inhabitants of the municipality has been much higher in recent years, not all of them are registered to reside in the municipality, thus reducing the municipality's income and therefore its development possibilities.
